Tenants in Hobart: How to Get Rid of Pet Hair

You’ve been lucky enough to find a rental that allows you to keep your furry friend with you. That’s great news, because not all owners sanction having pets on the premises. But now you will have to worry about controlling the endless amount of hair your darling seems to spread over everything, including you. And that’s a no-no if you’re renting. Baxton Property Management in Hobart makes a few suggestions that might help you.

It’s very clear in terms of the Tenancy Act that as a tenant you are responsible for keeping your rental clean, tidy and in the same condition it was in when you first moved in. Piles of pet hair everywhere and the lingering odour it leaves, doesn’t fit that picture. It’s not only a matter of pride and honour – it might even affect your ability to get your security bond back in full if your furry friend leaves the place a mess.

The superheroes of pet hair removal

Rubber, sponges and microfiber cloths are up there with Superman when it comes to removing pet hair from almost anywhere. Make sure you have them on hand,  and be sure to include a box of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) in your cleaning cupboard, too, as it’s great for removing the smell that’s associated with old pet hair.

Rubber Brooms: If you are a pet owner and don’t have a rubber broom in your cupboard, you don’t know what you’ve been missing. Hairs stick to the rubber in a way they really don’t stick to ordinary brooms. But while the full-sized broom is great for floors and carpets, it’s kind of cumbersome to try and use it on the seat of a couch. That’s where a smaller hand-held rubber brush joins the workforce.

Rubber gloves: These enable you to give any areas that brooms can’t get to, real hands-on treatment right down to a one or two-fingered attack on couch corners. Make the gloves slightly damp for optimum results. You can even stroke up a purr from your kitty, while remove some of the loose hair before it falls on the sofa.

Sponges: Usually under-rated and abused, sponges are great cleaning aids that deserve more respect than being left full of soap or dishwashing liquid to get soggy and smelly next to the bath or kitchen sink. Make sure to keep a couple of clean ones to act as effective clothes brushes and pet hair removers on most fabrics. Ever tried to keep the cat off the table? And succeeded? The best thing about sponges is they don’t just move the fluff and hair off tables (or the cloths that cover them) and onto the floor – the hairs stick to the sponge.

Microfiber cloths: Any pet owner knows it isn’t just carpets, upholstery and other fabrics that suffer the onslaught of pet hair. It ends up everywhere, including on mirrors and windows, as well as wood, glass and laminate surfaces. That’s where a microfiber cloth comes in. Try spraying the cloth lightly with water to make it slightly sticky, if you find the hairs it attracts to itself simply move with the cloth and get deposited elsewhere.

Finding the right way to deal with shed hair can make your home and furniture feel cleaner and smell better. It can also improve your relationship with your pet, and even your landlord. Baxton Property Management in Hobart knows the last thing you want as a tenant is to have the owner of your rental turning against you and your pet because of the mess and odour its shed hair can create. And that owners also don’t want it either.
