Chatswood Sydney Central Sports Podiatrist Feet Pain Treatment No Foot Orthotics
The Little-Known Method to Have Better Feet Without Orthotics
Let’s spare a thought for our feet. They may not be among the physical assets we’d mention on a dating profile, but they do get us from A to B, day in and day out, for a lifetime. But things can go wrong, says podiatrist Mark Lin, chief therapist of the Footwork Clinic, a podiatry practice in Sydney. When they do, the consequences can be far-reaching. Impaired mobility, pain, and injuries that can extend far beyond the feet themselves can result from foot problems.
“A lot of people have foot issues,” says Lin “and they can be something you’re born with or something you develop over the course of time.”
Orthotics aren’t a Cure
Lin is quick to distinguish between interventions that bring relief and those that can offer real improvements. Orthotics do have a place in treatment, but they can’t cure foot problems, he says. Unfortunately, many people think that the symptoms they’re experiencing are the “problem,” but symptomatic relief means that the issue that caused the symptoms still exists and will resurface as soon as orthotics aren’t used.
“Supposing you get headaches because you have bad eyesight,” he says. “You take a painkiller and feel better, but as soon as you stop taking painkillers, the headache will return because you haven’t addressed the reason why you got them in the first place. Just as people become dependant on symptom-relieving medications to get through the day, orthotics can mean that you aren’t able to enjoy the freedom of your feet without orthotics to help you.”
Foot Mobilisation Therapy and Trigenics a Powerful Combination
Podiatry isn’t a new science. Foot mobilisation techniques can help to correct a wide variety of foot problems, ensuring that we use our feet as nature intended us to. But Mark Lin is the first podiatrist in Australia to add Trigenics to foot treatment programs.
He explains: “Foot mobilisation works well when we’re working on muscles and joints, freeing them up to move more naturally and without pain. But the nervous system controls movement. It has been confused by the pain and injury and needs to be retrained. To achieve that, we need to reprogram the neurological signals. Trigenics helps us to do that quickly and effectively.”
Feel Better Without Orthotics
Mark is confident that feeling better without orthotics is possible. “It’s the outcome we aim for in our practice, and we are able to achieve it in the vast majority of cases,” he says. “The combination of foot mobilisation and Trigenics seems to produce a synergistic effect, giving our patients long-term relief without having to resort to orthotics.”
And, if you were worried that your foot problems were going to mean you have to give up wearing your favourite shoes, you may be in for a pleasant surprise. “A lot of people don’t even need to change the type of footwear they choose,” says Lin.
So, if you’ve been suffering from pain in the feet or lower limbs and have been dreading wearing clunky shoes with orthotics, you can relax. It really is possible to have better feet without orthotics.
